A renewable energy credit, sometimes called a renewable energy certificate, is a certificate corresponding to the environmental attributes of one megawatt-hour of energy produced from renewable sources, such as wind or solar.
Entergy Texas will retire the RECs corresponding to your subscription on your behalf. You will receive documentation noting the retirement of those RECs. As an alternative for non-residential customers, upon mutual agreement, Entergy Texas can transfer the RECs associated with your subscription to an account held by you as long as you agree to retire the RECs on your own behalf and not transfer them.
Yes, Green Future Option is subscribed on an account-by-account basis. Assuming capacity is available, you may enroll as few or as many eligible accounts as desired.
The minimum participation term for participating customers is 12 months. After the initial one-year term of subscription, the subscription will be automatically extended for successive periods of one year each until terminated by written notice, which must be given by one party to the other not more than six months nor less than two months prior to the expiration of the original term or any anniversary thereof. There is no penalty for customers who cancel their subscription, however any customer who terminates participation in Green Future Option would be precluded from re-joining the offering for a period of 12 months. As detailed below, this is not intended to preclude a customer who changes locations but retains their account from continuing to participate in Green Future Option, as portability is a key benefit of the offering. Note – There will be a 3-year window for enrollment that will begin when the underlying resource is placed in service, which is expected on 12/31/2023.
If you move from your current address, you can keep your subscription if:
For example, if you are a non-residential customer that takes service under the Entergy Texas’ Small General Service tariff at your old location, you will need to take service under the Small General Service tariff at your new location to continue to participate in Green Future Option with your existing subscription.
Your monthly Green Future Option subscription charge is calculated by multiplying the number of kilowatts (kW) you have subscribed to by the Green Future Option subscription charge per kW. The rate for Residential, General Service, Commercial, and Industrial customers is $6.50 per kW. Residential income qualified customers will be able to participate at a discounted rate of $6.00 per kW.
Your monthly credit is calculated by multiplying your portion of the energy from the Green Future Option resource by the MISO Market Settlement Rate (the amount that MISO pays for that energy), as shown below:
Monthly Credit Value = Green Future Option Energy x MISO Market Settlement Rate; where Green Future Option Energy = (Customer’s Green Future Option subscription value in kW / Capacity of the Green Future Option resource in kW) x Monthly kWh Output of the Green Future Option resource.
No. Subject to certain conditions and availability, you may be able to alter your subscription with an amended contract during the 3-year enrollment period.
Accounts that have minimum bill provisions will continue to be charged minimum bills according to the applicable rate schedules, as the monthly bill may not be less than the otherwise applicable minimum. In the event that the bill would result in the otherwise applicable minimum, any credit amount not applied in the current billing month will be carried forward to the following billing month.
No, the total Green Future Option credits will vary each month based on the output of the renewable resources that are designated for Green Future Option and variations in the MISO settlement rate.
The maximum kW you may subscribe to is calculated by dividing 100% of your last 12 months kWh usage by the efficiency factor of the Green Future Option resource. Your subscription may not exceed 5kW for residential customers and 30,000kW for commercial customers.
Example calculation for a commercial customer: 12,000,000 kWh (last 12 month usage)/2,397 (Efficiency Factor) = 5006 kW. This is the maximum a customer can subscribe to.
For solar resources, savings are based on the energy output of the solar array, which is dependent on a number of factors including weather, as well as the market price of energy.
Entergy Texas will continue to evaluate the future addition of more renewable capacity to the Green Future Option, taking into consideration numerous factors including, but not limited to, resource availability and customer interest.
